BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CSI JAYARAJ ANNNAPACKIAM MISSION HOSPITAL

CSI Jayaraj Annapackiam Mission Hospital was started on the 21 st December 1993 at Palayamkottai which is the Head Quarters of the CSI Tirunelveli Diocese. This Mission Hospital was started in an ancient building which belonged to the Diocese.(old photo).

The hospital was started with the vision of Rt. Rev. Jason S Dharmaraj, Bishop Tirunelveli to provide basic and advanced medical care to the needy and under privileged people in and around palayamkottai The first medical superintendent of this hospital was Dr Gladwin and the first manager of this hospital was Rev. Simson Sigamani.

To begin with, this Mission Hospital had only four inpatient beds along with Pharmacy, Laboratory, Labour room and a Mini Operation Theatre. Subsequently, other facilities like ECG and X- Ray were added for better patient care. Over time many patients from Palayamkottai and nearby villages started seeking medical aid to our Mission Hospital

SUBSEQUENT GROWTH OF THIS MISSION HOSPITAL

In course of time our outpatient and in-patient flow started increasing progressively and we were in need of advanced facilities and in- patient beds. In the year 1994, adjacent to the old building where we were providing outpatient and inpatient services, a new building (Vimala Chelladurai block) was constructed with ten in-patient rooms. The Jeyaraj Nadar family was a generous benefactor to the construction of the new block.

Subsequently in 1995, an Operation theatre was built. The Opertation theatre was donated by Mr. S D K Rajan and Mr. Johnson. As the out-patient and in-patient number increased exponentially, the need for inpatient beds rose and in 2004, a new in-patient block (D block) was built with 18 beds (12 General beds and 6 special rooms).
